Orkut Mania- You are not what you are

I havent been able to blog for over a month. Work has been really hectic, hardly like the expected final yr of MBA. Having deadlines to meet practically every alternate day, my blog had to suffer my lowest priority. But i have made time to write this one. Some of the clear changes i have noticed is that my orkut activity has come down drastically. The number of ppl scrapping me has almost reached the number of defects in a six-sigma operation. I dont know if all are busy or stuff like that.. but one thing i learnt is ppl in orkut are just hell bent on somehow increasing their scrapcount at what ever cost.. now the latest craze is the fan base, the friend base, the no. of testimonials etc. Its funny at the same time pitiful to see ppl going for 'mutual fan' programs where unknown ppl strike a deal with each other to be each other's fans. Another case is some unknown chap sending messages to random ppl to write him/her testimonials. Orkut guys might be making big bucks but I dont know if this was orkut's mission, ie purpose of existence. When it started initially, it was used for the reason it was supposed to.. try to regain yr lost contacts.. establish yr networks again and so on. But now.. ppl boast of their scrap counts, fan list, no. of testimonials and stuff. After all thses guys think that no one is going too see me in person,, so what do i lose in selling some of my self-respect in desperatley seeking some reognition? ...whom are they trying to prove? what will these ppl feel inside abt themselves? why wear a mask and show that they are 'cool dudes' etc? i am sure in reality many of these ppl would hardly be the ones they project in these 'profiles'. I am also an orkutian, and I have learnt the hard way. I too was in this fad, but now realize that there is more to life than orkut. Ppl wake up! You dont need to scrap a person sitting inches away from you and increase yr scrap-count. Live a normal life! Use orkut for what its meant too! (i have done some thinking..and i have found some of the truth.. you do too.. and we ll all laugh at the masks we wear! )
